Yes, a person can produce decals independently with the convenience of working at home.


What Are The Methods Advised For Production Of Decals?

There are two methods present for the production of decals. And these are

  • Production Of Decals By Hand And Paper

  • Production Of Decals By Computer And Paper

If a person wants custom decals according to his choice and will then he can opt for above mentioned two methods. These two methods require a little practice, precision, intensive concentration, and dedication. Following words will explain each method clearly.

Method No 1: Producing Decals By Hand Drawings:

This method is a simply old school method and every person with some good sketching skills can produce significantly good decals.


Things Required For Producing Decals:

Following are the things required for the production of hand-drew decals.

  • Plain Paper

  • Contact Paper

  • Brown Packing Paper

  • Scissors

  • Felt Tip Marker

Caution:

Hand drawn decals are more costly than computer and printer because it requires fewer materials. Secondly, this method is only used for simpler designs.


Steps Involved In The Production Of Decals:

  1. Gather all the required materials. You need to have everything ready before you sit down for the creative process.

  2. Pick one plain paper and draw a sketch of the design. You can also use a computer printed sketch and outline it with your pencil. If you are creating a wall decal then you must scale the room and make sure that design has detail like furniture and shelves. If you are using software like Photoshop then scan the picture of the room.

  3. Calculate how much contact paper you need. You must have an idea that how much bigger is your room and where you intend to use the decal. If you are planning to produce decals in large numbers then you must order contact paper in bulk.

  4. Use brown paper and draw the design. This practice will make the final decal precise. Then tape the design on the wall to scale the room for the decal. Pay attention and calculate the differences and keep the corners and other shapes in mind and make adjustment in design.

  5. Take the paper from the wall and trace it on the contact paper. Use good pencils. Make adjustments where necessary. This design will be final. Double check the design for finer details.

  6. Place the contact paper on a flat surface. Use weights to hold the paper.

  7. Take scissors and cut the design carefully. After the cutting your decal is ready.

Method No 2: Producing The Decals By Computer And Printer:

This method requires less effort but a technicality.


Things You Require:

You will require the following things:

  • Computer Or Graphics Tablet

  • Scanner

  • Photo Editing Software

  • Printer

  • Vinyl Sheet Paper

  • Laminate Sheet

  • Scissors Or X-To Knife

Caution:

You do not need a graphics tablet but photo editing is simple on a tablet.


Steps Involved In The Production Of Decals:

Following are the steps necessary for decals printing by computer and printing:

  1. Gather all the things. Check printer, scanner, and sheets. Make everything ready.

  2. Scan the image you want to use on the decal. You can use photo editing software to put text in it or embed the image into design downloaded from the internet. You can also use images and design from the internet. Fix the resolution on 600 dpi.

  3. Edit the decal. You can use Photoshop or any other custom software. Make the necessary adjustments. Resize the images. Double check the color combination.

  4. Take a vinyl sheet and insert it in the printer. Make sure you put the right face into the printer.

  5. Use photo editing software to make a sheet of decals. You can calculate the sizes for one sheet of vinyl. This way you can prevent wastage of vinyl.

  6. Print out the decal sheet on a plain paper and double check the color combination, brightness of colors, and quality.

  7. After satisfying results from the plain paper. Print the decal sheet on the vinyl sheet.

  8. Use the more laminator and laminate the decal. Lamination will protect the decal from the wear and tear of the environment.Use scissors to cut the decals into the right sizes.

  9. If you are using x-acto knife then cut the excess sheet precisely.

  10. Peel of the backing of the vinyl sheet and stick your decal at the surface.
